Jumpstart is a day-long leadership retreat for middle school students
planned and carried out byWPYC members. This retreat provides opportunities
to learn important leadership skills alongwith new ideas on how to prevent
alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse. During the day, students attend
workshops facilitated by WPYC members such as True Colors where they can
learn about themselves and how they interact with others, High School
Prep which provides an open forum to discuss their upcoming high school
experience, Feeling Groovy which addresses self-esteem and doing what
is right, and many more. Each group is also provided with team time which
is again facilitated by WPYC members. Students use this time to apply
their skills by developing an action plan with their school team to address
an issue they feel is important in their school or community.
