PAST SPECIAL EVENTS

The Special Events Committee of WPYC does everything from coordinating conference responsibilities to helping with other opportunities that present themselves throughout the year. However, the biggest responsibility for the committee is Rivalry on the River, which takes place during the Wichita River Festival each May. This is one of the largest WPYC events of the year and is a major undertaking. Rivalry on the River is the only teen event during the Festival and involves recruiting teams of high school students from Sedgwick County and surrounding areas to compete against one of their biggest rivals for prizes and school pride.

The Lung Lovers Rally held in 2002 was an anti-tobacco youth rally where participants take part in activities to show tobacco companies that they were not buying into their message (more photos below!).
